Class Schedule Winter 2010

CLASS POLICIES: Pre-registration is required for all classes. One-half payment of class fee is required to register, and the remainder of fee is due ONE WEEK before the start of class. Your deposit is refundable if you cancel one week in advance. We appreciate you buying class supplies from us, and a 10% discount is given when you are enrolled in a class. Sorry, no child care is available or visitors allowed.

Note! We cancel classes and reschedule for bad weather, so call if you have a question.

QUILTING SKILLS:

Sampler SIX WEEK SAMPLER BEGINNING QUILTING with Janette Meetze -- A comprehensive course for the beginner, this class includes quick piecing, hand applique, hand quilting, and finishing techniques, including lap quilting. HAND PIECING: PRECISION IS THE NAME OF THE GAME with Elsie Ridgley -- Hand piecing gives a soft edge to seams and allows the quilter who enjoys hand work to produce beautiful quilts. This method gives more accuracy and control than machine piecing, allowing you to make precise Y and curved seams plus the more complex pieced patterns. You will learn to piece Ohio Star, Card Tricks, Eight Pointed Star, Goose Tracks, Turkey Tracks, and Drunkard's Path, plus a crib size setting. MACHINE QUILTING with Lavena Rager -- Have you been wanting to try machine quilting, but you are intimidated by all the books and patterns? Explore simple quilting techniques; learn what you and your machine can do. Learn basic walking foot quilting, paper or template quilting, stippling, and free motion quilting. $25 Sat., January 23

INVISIBLE MACHINE APPLIQUE with Lavena Rager -- Love the look of needle turn applique but don't want to do it by hand? This class will teach you four different techniques of applique that will be done by machine, but will look like the needle turn technique. $25 Sat., March 20

HEIRLOOM HAND QUILTING with Janette Meetze -- Learn to mark a top, assemble, and baste the layers with this exquisite white-on-white small quilt. Then you will learn to fine tune your hand quilting stitches with hands on quilting with Janette. $35, includes pattern Sat., April 10

APPLIQUE SAMPLER QUILT with Janette Meetze -- Janette will start with the basics of fine hand applique, and proceed on to the details that will make this primarily floral design quilt an heirloom to treasure. You will explore reverse applique, cording, trapunto, 3-dimensional touches, and much more! PINE TREE INN QUILT with Barbara Allbritton -- Pine trees aren't just for Christmas anymore! Join Barbara for this cute, wintry wall hanging of pine trees against a night sky. Easy cutting and piecing using Quilt In A Day rulers. Use batiks or other blues and greens for a year round look. $25 Sat., January 16

WASHINGTON MEDALLION QUILT with Elsie Ridgley -- Helpful hints and piecing techniques for the Washington Medallion block of the month quilt will be demonstrated by Elsie. $5 each Mon., January 11, Feb. 1, March 1

BUTTERNUT AND BLUE QUILT with Elsie Ridgley -- For those of you who enjoy Civil War history as well as quilting come and join the Butternut and Blue group. This group will meet once a month the second Tuesday OR the second Thursday of the month for the whole year. Elsie will guide you through Barbara Brackman’s book, Borderland in Butternut and Blue. History from the book as well as added historical snippets Elsie has researched will be presented. Starting in January, we will take a look at fabric and color options available during the early to mid 1800’s. By the end of the year, you will have produced at least 12 blocks from the book plus optional extras that Elsie will give throughout the year. $15 each Tuesday, Jan. 12, Feb. 9, March 9

SEASONS OF CHANGE WOOL APPLIQUE with Leslie Hale -- A little candle mat for Valentine’s Day, Leslie will take the mystery out of working with wool. $15 Wednesday, January 20

FAT QUARTER CHARMER with Elsie Ridgley -- Each quarter of 2010, Elsie will offer a class using Fat Quarters to create a quilt. The first quarters class will create the block “Barbed Square,” and make it the size you want with extra blocks. Knowledge of rotary cutting and basic sewing machine piecing is required. $17.50 Monday, February 8
1-5 p.m.
SHINING STARS QUILT with Barbara Albritton -- Another project using the Triangle in a Square ruler from “Quilt in a Day.” Make this quick, but stunning wall hanging using just six fabrics. We used batiks, but you could also choose patriotic or holiday fabrics to vary the look. $25 Saturday, February 13

FOUNDATION PAPER PIECING with Lavena Rager -- So, what exactly is foundation paper piecing? It is sewing on paper that has the pattern printed on it. Then, using flip and sew method, you attach fabric to foundation paper. This method is 99.9% perfect for angles and sharp points! You will make four blocks that are progressively more difficult. $25 Mon., Feb. 15 and 22

STRING QUILTS with Lavena Rager -- Another “ol’ tyme” method of quilting is by sewing strips of fabric onto a fabric or paper background, cutting triangles from the strips, and resewing into blocks. Today’s quilter can make the same quilt using a quicker and easier method. This is a very good way to use up your larger scraps. $25 Sat., Feb. 20

HONEYCOMB PAPER PIECING with Teresa Marler -- Learn another version of English paper piecing with Teresa, using a different shape, the elongated hexagon. $15 Monday, March 8

FARMERS MARKET JAR QUILT with Barbara Albritton -- Use fun fruit and vegetable fabrics from the Cotton Patch to “stock your pantry” with this cute wall hanging using as few or as many of these fabrics as you would like. $25 Saturday, March 13

Wednesday Stitch Group -- Join a fun group of ladies who stitch and visit in the Cotton Patch classroom every Wednesday from 10-12 a.m. New members welcome, and it's FREE!
Itty Bitty Quilt Committee Miniature Club -- New members are welcome to join our group of miniature and small quilt enthusiasts for an hour of education and sharing. We meet the first Thursday of the month, and it's FREE!
